Verified, disputed, or still unknown
What the current evidence actually proves
A route can be verified on gameplay footage. A claim that a door does not exist is harder to prove, so the optional-door verdict stays evidence-bounded rather than absolute.

Watch the Yellow Key route
This 3 minute 36 second gameplay guide starts the Yellow Key segment at 1:22. It shows the Tailwater Village cave, Elite enemy, Tailwater Key, inner door, and final Yellow Key pickup. The optional-door discussion begins at 3:01 and is treated as supporting observation, not official proof.

When the Yellow Key route becomes available
Advance Chapter 1 until the Retired Gatekeeper in Subcity 03 gives you the Red Key. That conversation activates the search for the Blue and Yellow Keys. The Malefact Bear on the Yellow Key route may not appear before this story step.
Once the colored-key objective is active, head toward Tailwater Village in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone. The cave you need is by the rice fields on the village's northern side, toward the far end of the farmland.
Fast route to the Yellow Key
The Yellow Key is not a direct ground pickup. You first need a smaller local key from the Elite enemy guarding the cave, then use it to reach the Golem holding the colored key.
- Receive the Red Key from the Retired Gatekeeper in Subcity 03 so the colored-key objective is active.
- Travel to Tailwater Village and move through the rice fields on the north side of the settlement.
- Enter the cave beyond the farmland and defeat the Malefact Bear in the first chamber.
- Pick up the Tailwater Key dropped by the Malefact Bear.
- Use the Tailwater Key on the locked inner door in the same cave.
- Speak with the Golem in the innermost chamber to receive the Yellow Key.
Tailwater Key and Yellow Key are different items
The Malefact Bear drops the Tailwater Key, not the Yellow Key. The Tailwater Key opens only the inner cave door on this route. The Golem behind that door gives you the Yellow Key needed for the Chapter 1 story gate.
If the bear is defeated but the main key is still missing, check that you collected the enemy drop, opened the inner door, and completed the Golem conversation. PowerPyx's full region checklist also places the Fried Egg recipe on the table to the right of this Golem. That is Tailwater-room loot, not evidence of a second Yellow Key door.
- Tailwater Key: enemy drop from the Malefact Bear
- Tailwater Key use: inner door in the Tailwater Village cave
- Yellow Key: received from the Golem beyond that door
- Yellow Key use: one of three locks on the Subcity 03 story door
- Fried Egg recipe: on the table to the right of the Golem, behind the Tailwater Key route
What the Yellow Key definitely unlocks
The confirmed use is the sealed three-lock door in Subcity 03, also described by some guides as the route to Nushi's Lair. You need the Red, Blue, and Yellow Keys together before the Chapter 1 main quest can continue.
The Red Key starts the key hunt, the Blue Key is collected near Lookout Shack, and the Yellow Key completes the set after the Tailwater Village cave route.
- Required door: the three-lock story door in Subcity 03
- Required set: Red Key, Blue Key, and Yellow Key
- Story purpose: continue the Chapter 1 main quest
Is there another Yellow Key door
The best-supported answer is that no separate Yellow Key door has been reproduced. Game8's dedicated Yellow Key guide explicitly says the key has no extra door on the map, unlike the Red and Blue Keys. PowerPyx's 100% Ogouchi checklist identifies the Red and Blue optional doors but gives the Yellow Key only its cave pickup. The checked gameplay guide reports the same result after searching, VGC identifies only the story route, and players in the linked discussion could not provide a verifiable Yellow equivalent.
One Nerdschalk guide claims the Yellow Key opens a locked building north of the river with a strongbox inside. We could not corroborate that location in the other checked route sources. The claim has no reproducible map point, door interaction, or gameplay path, so it remains unverified rather than being presented as a second use.
- Confirmed by multiple route sources: Subcity 03 story door
- Explicitly stated by Game8: no extra Yellow Key door on the map
- Single-source claim: locked building north of the river
- Current verdict: no optional Yellow Key door has been reproduced
- What would change the verdict: continuous gameplay showing the map position, yellow interaction prompt, door opening, and reward
Patch 1.0.7 did not document a key change
The official v1.0.7 and console v1.005.000 patch notes were checked on August 12. They document camera and text adjustments, input remapping, combat balance changes, and several bug fixes. They do not list any change to colored keys, the Tailwater route, locked doors, or Strongbox rewards.
That does not prove no undocumented behavior changed, but there is no official basis for rewriting the route after this patch. The steps and verdict above therefore remain current for the checked version.
If the bear, key, or door is missing
Use the checklist below before assuming the quest is bugged. The most common mix-up is searching for the Yellow Key on the defeated enemy instead of taking the Tailwater Key into the next chamber.
- Confirm that you received the Red Key in Subcity 03
- Track the Yellow Key objective before returning to Tailwater Village
- Search the cave beside the northern rice fields, not every building in the village
- Defeat the Malefact Bear and collect the Tailwater Key drop
- Use the Tailwater Key on the inner cave door
- Speak with the Golem beyond the door to receive the Yellow Key
- Do not spend time searching for an optional yellow door unless new reproducible evidence is available
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Yellow Key in Beast of Reincarnation?
It is held by a Golem in the innermost chamber of a cave beside the northern rice fields at Tailwater Village in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone.
How do I get the Tailwater Key?
Defeat the Malefact Bear in the first chamber of the Tailwater Village cave. It drops the Tailwater Key, which opens the inner door leading to the Yellow Key Golem.
What door does the Yellow Key open?
Its confirmed use is one of the three locks on the Chapter 1 story door in Subcity 03. You also need the Red and Blue Keys.
Is there an optional Yellow Key door?
No separate Yellow Key door has been reproduced in the checked evidence. Game8 explicitly says there is no extra Yellow Key door, the gameplay guide reports the same result after searching, VGC lists only the story use, and the community discussion did not produce a verifiable location.
What is the building north of the river?
One guide claims a Yellow Key opens a building north of the river containing a strongbox, but that claim is not corroborated by the other checked route sources. Treat it as unverified rather than a confirmed destination.
Why is the Malefact Bear not in the cave?
Advance the Chapter 1 story through Subcity 03 and receive the Red Key first. That step activates the colored-key search and the relevant encounter.
