Best Beast of Reincarnation Build

Tracking Shot remains a source-based starting point for safer ranged play. Magic Bullet changed in 1.0.11; this guide does not claim a new damage ranking.

Answer at a glance

The safest strong build is projectile-focused

Start in the lower-left ranged branch of Emma's skill tree with Tracking Shot, then work toward Magic Bullet, Scatter-Shot, and Entangled Shot while upgrading the bow, crossbow, and the ammo you actually use. This setup deals heavy damage from safer positions and replenishes ammunition at campsites, but it does not remove the need to parry, dodge, or manage enemies that close the distance. It is a strong completed-run setup, not a mathematical claim that every other build is worse.

Build focus Ranged damage and safer spacing
First skill Tracking Shot
Core follow-up Magic Bullet
Hair synergy Scatter-Shot and Entangled Shot
Upgrade priority Weapon plus chosen ammo
Main limit Ammo and close-range pressure

Best build at a glance

The launch-guide recommendation is a projectile setup centered on Emma's bow and crossbow. A PC Gamer reviewer completed the game with heavy investment in ranged skills and reported that the setup could remove large portions of enemy health from safer distances.

The recommendation is conditional. Choose it if strict parry timing is the part of combat you want to reduce. If you already enjoy close-range parries and Koo's FP loop, a melee-support setup may fit you better even if the projectile route is easier to execute.

  • Use the crossbow immediately and add the longbow when it becomes available
  • Spend early Emma points toward Tracking Shot in the lower-left branch
  • Keep one melee plan because bosses can outlast a full ammo supply
  • Upgrade the ammunition types you use instead of spreading Amber across everything

Projectile build skill order

The exact number of points between nodes depends on the path and prerequisites shown in your current tree. Use this as a priority order, not as a promise that every named skill is available immediately.

  1. Unlock Tracking Shot first in Emma's lower-left ranged branch so arrows can track targets.
  2. Continue toward Magic Bullet, which sends a tracking shot back through the target for another hit.
  3. Invest in the Hair prerequisites that lead to Scatter-Shot and Entangled Shot.
  4. Take ammo-efficiency nodes when available, including the chance not to consume a shot and the later kill-based replenishment effect.
  5. Upgrade the bow, crossbow, and the arrow or bolt types you actually carry at campsites and workbenches.

Why the projectile build works

Tracking Shot reduces the aiming burden. Magic Bullet gives the tracked projectile another pass through the target. Scatter-Shot turns each ranged attack into three spreading shots, while Entangled Shot restores part of the gauge used to slow the world around Emma.

The pieces reinforce one another: safer range creates time to aim, tracking makes each shot more reliable, repeated and split hits increase output, and gauge recovery supports more slow-time control. Campsites refill arrows and bolts, so the route becomes sustainable once checkpoints are frequent enough.

Upgrade the weapon and ammo too

Skill points are only one part of the build. Upgrade the ranged weapons themselves at campsites and workbenches, then improve the individual arrow and bolt types you use. The PC Gamer test reached at least +11 on ranged weapons and also upgraded elemental ammunition, but that is an observed save state rather than a guaranteed cap.

Do not spend Amber evenly just to keep every option symmetrical. A focused first run gets more value from improving the two or three ammunition types that match the enemies and status effects you actually use.

Tradeoffs and boss limits

Ranged does not turn Beast of Reincarnation into a no-contact game. Fast enemies can close the distance, and multi-phase bosses can survive longer than one full ammo supply. Keep practicing basic parries and dodges, and save enough ammunition for the phase where distance matters most.

Heavy Emma investment also delays some Koo upgrades. The completed-run evidence behind this page came from a player who spent comparatively little on Koo during the first playthrough. That makes the build clear and powerful, but it gives up some of the companion variety that defines the game's intended combat loop.

Patch 1.0.10 build status

Update: this section now covers the official notes through 1.0.12, checked September 20, 2026.

Patch 1.0.11 adjusts Magic Bullet power after penetration and changes several weapon and skill parameters. Earlier damage impressions are not a current benchmark. Test your chosen ammo and skills before committing further points.

Flower-node skills are resettable from 1.0.11. Use the current refund preview when rebuilding. The historical 1.0.8 Bloom Arts changes remain part of the guide’s context; they do not establish today’s strongest setup.

What if you prefer parries and Koo?

Stay with the core loop: parry to generate FP, use Koo's command slowdown to choose a Bloom Art, and pressure the Down Gauge for finishers. Higanbana Seeds provides long-range pressure, while Higanbana Roots can restrain multiple enemies. This path better preserves the one-person, one-dog rhythm, but the current sources do not support one universal point-by-point melee build.

Choose the projectile setup for safer execution. Choose the parry and Koo route if timing, companion commands, and close-range control are the reasons you are playing. The useful meaning of best depends on the problem you want the build to solve.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best build in Beast of Reincarnation?

The launch-guide recommendation is a projectile route using Tracking Shot with focused ranged upgrades. Since Magic Bullet changed in 1.0.11, this is a starting point rather than a measured current-patch winner.

What skill should I unlock first?

Start with Tracking Shot in the lower-left ranged branch if you want the projectile build. It makes ranged arrows track enemies and opens the path toward the rest of the setup.

Can a ranged build avoid parrying completely?

No. Projectiles reduce close-range risk, but fast enemies and long boss phases still require positioning, dodging, and some parry competence.

Did recent patches change the projectile build?

Yes. Patch 1.0.11 changes Magic Bullet power after penetration and other combat parameters. The notes do not supply a universal nerf percentage, and this site has not re-tested damage.

Should I ignore Koo for this build?

No. The source build spent fewer first-run points on Koo, but Koo's commands still provide control and support. Treat lower Koo investment as a tradeoff, not a rule that the companion is useless.
